Information on the Erasmus+ program
The Erasmus+ 2021/2027 programme increases opportunities for more participants and a wider range of organisations. Key themes such as social inclusion, environmental sustainability, the digital transition and promoting participation in democratic life by younger generations are central to the programme. Spending time in another country to study, learn and work should become the norm, as should being able to speak two languages other than one’s mother tongue.
The specific objectives of the programme include:
- Promote the mobility of individuals and groups for learning and collaboration, quality, inclusion and equity, excellence, creativity and innovation at the level of organisations and policies in education and training;
- Promote mobility for non-formal and informal learning, active youth participation, collaboration, quality, inclusion, creativity and innovation at the level of youth organisations and policies;
- Promote mobility for the learning of sports personnel and collaboration, quality, inclusion, creativity and innovation at the sports organisations and policies level.
Students can perform the activities described below.
- A period of study abroad at a partner higher education institution. The period of study abroad must be part of the student’s program intended to complete any degree cycle. A period of study abroad may also include an internship. This combination creates synergies between academic and professional experience abroad.
- A traineeship (placement) abroad at an enterprise, research institute, laboratory, organisation or other relevant job. Internships abroad are funded if they are carried out by students at any level of study and by recent graduates. This also applies to assistants for future teachers and research assistants for students and doctoral candidates carried out in any relevant research facility. To further strengthen synergies with Horizon Europe, such mobility experiences may also occur within the context of research projects funded by Horizon Europe, Fully respecting the principle that no activity may receive double funding from the EU. The internship should be an integral part of the student’s study programme if possible.
Mobility during the PhD
To better meet the different learning and training needs of PhD students and to ensure equal opportunities, PhD students and recent PhD (post-doc) 32 have the opportunity to spend periods of physical mobility abroad, Short or long term for study or traineeship. The addition of a virtual component to physical mobility is encouraged.
Mixed mobility (where foreseen).
Any period of study or internship abroad of any duration, including mobility within the framework of a PhD, may be carried out in the form of mixed mobility. Mixed mobility combines physical mobility activities with a virtual component that facilitates collaborative learning exchanges and online teamwork.
Mobility of staff
Staff mobility may occur from any country participating in the programme to any other country participating in the programme or partner country. To ensure high quality and maximum impact, the mobility activity must be linked to the professional development of staff members and meet their learning and personal development needs.
Staff may perform one of the activities described below.
- A period of teaching abroad at a partner higher education institution. This activity enables the teaching staff of a higher education institution or business staff to teach at a partner higher education institution abroad. Staff mobility for teaching purposes can take place in any field of study.
- A period of training abroad at a partner higher education institution, company or other relevant job. This activity enables the staff of a higher education institution to participate in a training activity abroad that is relevant to their day-to-day work at the higher education institution where they work. It may take the form of training or work support events.
A staff mobility period abroad may involve a combination of teaching and training activities. Each study or training abroad period may be carried out as a mixed mobility.
