SBorn in 1975 in Naples, Italy. Since 2006 is Assistant Professor in Material Science and Engineering at the University of Sannio at Benevento.
Education
He graduated in Chemical Engineering at the University of Naples in 1999 defending the thesis “Rheology of systems with localized interactions”. In 2000 he obtained his diploma of engineer. In 2003 he earned a Doctorate Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Naples defending the thesis “Flow-induced crystallization of thermoplastic polymers”.
Expertises
His research activity has developed mainly in the field of flow properties and flow-structure relations in polymeric systems, including: Molecular modeling of polymer solutions and melts; Phase transitions (both in absence and in presence of flow) of polymeric systems. Working in these areas, he was able to develop an expertise in rheology and rheo-optical techniques, the latter allows for direct monitoring of the interactions between flow and structure development in complex polymer systems.
More recently he research interests expanded to several other subjects, including: plastic recycling, mechanical and durability properties of lightweight concretes, development bioactive polymer-based materials and mechanical and thermoplastic/carbon nanotubes composites.
Scientific activities
From 2011 to 2013 he was leader of the research unit at the University of Sannio of the PRIN project "Nanofilled soluble textiles for RTM composites (NanoSolTex)" funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research.
Form 2004 to2008 he was scientific leader of the research unit at the University of Naples of the project “Polymer Injection Advanced Moulding” funded by the European Commission.
From 2005 to 2006 he has been postdoctoral researcher in Chemical Engineering at the University of Naples.
From 2003 to 2004 he has been è postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium).
In 2001 he has been Scholar Researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (U.S.A).
Furthermore, he was in the organizing committee of the 4th Annual European Rheology Conference, AERC2007, held in Naples during the period 12-14 April 2007.
Stefano Acierno is author of about 30 publications published in international Journals or in internationally peer-reviewed meeting proceedings (has an h-index of and 750 citations on Scopus).
