Enrolment process of EU and non-EU citizens
Every year, UNISANNIO welcomes numerous international students. The university is attractive for the quality of teaching and research, the services offered and the liveability of Benevento's urban campus. Find the degree programme for you.
To enrol at the University of Sannio, international students must follow the procedures indicated on the MUR Ministry of University and Research portal.
EU citizens, non-EU citizens regularly residing in Italy and Italian citizens with qualifications obtained abroad
Citizens of these categories can enrol under the same conditions as Italian citizens.
Enrollment is carried out electronically directly at the University, in compliance with the terms and provisions established for access to the Study Courses specified in the specific sections of this website.

STEP 1 - VISA issuance
The fundamental requirement is issuing a visa for study purposes, necessary to submit a pre-registration application through the UNIVERSITALY portal, exclusively in the period indicated annually by the Ministry.
The application is automatically verified and validated by the University of Sannio and subsequently forwarded by the University to the relevant diplomatic-consular representation indicated by the student. The interested party, through UNIVERSITALY is constantly updated on the status of the application and the necessary requirements for accessing the study course and issuing the visa. Passing the validation phase of the pre-selection application presented on UNIVERSITALY does not guarantee enrolment.___________________________________________________________________________
STEP 2 - Preliminary registration procedures
At this stage, the foreign student must collect all the mandatory documentation.
To enrol in bachelor's degree and master's degree, it is necessary to possess:
- Valid passport
- Entry visa for study purposes "university enrolment", issued by the Italian Representation in the country of last residence (a.y. 2024-2025 for citizens of non-EU countries residing abroad and applying for a study Visa, and a.y. 2023-2024 for students Chinese people of the Marco Polo project)
- Copy of the receipts for the request for the first residence permit for study purposes (only for citizens of non-EU countries residing abroad and applying for a study visa). The request for an appointment to issue the residence permit must be made within 8 days of arrival in Italy at any post office
- Valid residence permit and possible receipt of submission of the renewal request (only for citizens of non-EU countries regularly residing in Italy and Chinese students of the Marco Polo project)
- Secondary school diploma (obtained after at least 12 years of schooling and valid for access to first-level university studies in the system of the country in which it was received):
- If you have obtained the diploma in one of the countries listed in the Automatic Recognition Database, you must submit:
- Original of the secondary school diploma, accompanied by a sworn translation in Italian or English
- Certificate of correspondence downloaded from the ARDI website
- Verification certificate issued by CIMEA or, alternatively, legalization/apostille of the qualification itself
- If you have obtained the diploma in one of the countries listed in the Automatic Recognition Database, you must submit:

- It is necessary if you have obtained the qualification in a country NOT present in the Automatic Recognition Database:
- Original of the diploma, accompanied by a sworn translation in Italian or English
- Comparability and Verification Certificates issued by CIMEA. In place of the Certificate of Comparability, it is possible to present the Declaration of Value (DoV) issued by the Italian representation in the country to which the qualification refers. In this case, the qualification must be legalised (or with Apostille) in its original and translated version
For enrolment in degree courses entirely taught in English, a sworn translation of the qualification obtained is not necessary only if obtained directly in English.
- For students from non-EU countries residing abroad and applying for a study Visa:
- In case of a request to enrol in a course in Italian, it is necessary to present a certification attesting to a level of knowledge of the Italian language no lower than B2, in line with the scientific standards established by the Council of Europe within the Common European Framework Reference for language knowledge. The certificate is mandatory.
- If you do not have this certification, it is mandatory to take the Italian language test and obtain at least a B2-level

STEP 3 - UNISANNIO Portal Registration
Students must complete their registration on the University of Sannio portal at this stage. A Registration Guide is available to help you complete the form. You must upload mandatory documentation in the attachments section.
The preliminary registration procedures, such as the completion, presentation, and administrative control of the mandatory documents, will be carried out electronically.
After completing the administrative checks, the U.O. Carriere Studenti reserves the right to request the original documentation and make in-person appointments to evaluate the paper documents. Candidates are, therefore, invited to bring the original documentation during the in-person call.______________________________________________________________________________
STEP 4 - Payment of taxes
Once the registration process has been completed, with the uploading of all the documents required by STEP 2, once in Italy, it is necessary to proceed with the payment according to the instructions provided by the UNISANNIO offices.
International students falling within the cases specified by the Ministerial Decree of the Ministry of University and Research n. 440/2024 are exempt from paying the all-inclusive annual contribution.
About foreign EU and non-EU students residing abroad, not falling within the cases specified by the Ministerial Decree n. 440/2024, the amount of the all-inclusive annual contribution is set at €600.00 (in addition to the regional tax and stamp duty), to be paid according to the same deadlines and in the same instalments previously envisaged.
