The Centralized University Library (BCA)
In accordance with Article no. 25 of the Statute of the University of Sannio, the Centralized University Library (BCA) is part of the University Library System, a coordinated and integrated network of people, resources, and services that collects, preserves, enhances, classifies, and makes available the bibliographic and documentary heritage of the University.
The Centralized University Library (BCA) was established by Decree No. 446 of May 10, 2019, following the merger of the pre-existing libraries of the three active departments at the University of Sannio.
The BCA is located in Benevento, in the ground-floor rooms of Palazzo De Simone, in Piazza Arechi II, and in the so-called "Pozzo Librario", located in the ground floor of the “Ex Poste” building, at Via delle Puglie 82.
At the BCA, users can consult books and journals, access multimedia materials, borrow books, perform "online" researches, request books or journal articles not physically available but accessible through interlibrary loan and the "Document Delivery" service, in compliance with the internal operating regulations.
The BCA holds a bibliographic and documentary collection related to the various academic and research fields at the University (engineering, science and technology, law, economics, statistics, etc.), which it continuously updates, along with funds donated by faculty members. It currently holds more than 95,000 bibliographic units, including 1,500 titles of printed journals, 139 electronic journals, e-books, and databases, which institutional users can access from workstations connected to the Unisannio network or remotely through the Proxy service.
The BCA is a member of the National Library Service (SBN) cooperation network, connected to the Naples Hub (SBN NAP), to promote participatory cataloging, bibliographic data exchange between libraries, and the provision of modern services. To date, over 45,000 bibliographic units of its collection have been cataloged in the SBN system.
For periodical cataloging, the BCA participates in ACNP, the Italian catalog of periodicals held by libraries throughout the country. For the provision of the "Document Delivery" service, it is part of the national NILDE network (Network Inter-Library Documents Exchange), a secure document transmission system.
Additionally, it participates in "ILL SBN" (Inter Library Loan SBN) to foster national cooperation while continuing to manage the "Interlibrary Loan" service independently at the local level.
The BCA collaborates with libraries from universities that have signed the "Inter-University Agreement for the Integration of Library and Documentary Services," which created the "SHARE Campus" project. This project aims to enhance both the information and document offerings and the support for research and teaching, offering the following services: the collective catalog in "linked open data" (SHARE Catalogue); the federated search system (information discovery) for integrated access to respective collections, both physical and digital (SHARE Discovery); common platforms for open-access digital publishing (SHARE Press), to publish journals (SHARE Journals), e-books (SHARE Books), research products, data, and historical documentation (SHARE Open Archive); and mutual recognition of institutional users as internal users for access to consultation, loans, and other services at participating locations.
