VITO CESARO in
LA ZEZA
Comedy farce with music from a cloth of the '600 Neapolitan
With Claudio Lardo - Enrica Mari
Written and directed by Dora Liguori
The character of Pulcinella, created by Silvio Fiorillo at the beginning of the '600, draws its roots from Maccus, the figure of the Atellane. Pulcinella, becoming a symbol of the "Commedia dell'Arte," represents the wisdom and the popular resistance of Naples, reflecting the life and difficulties of the people. The farces in which it appears are characterised by improvisation and grotesque comedy, often set in public places such as squares and courtyards. The text also describes a specific farce entitled "La Zeza," which sees Pulcinella confronting his wife, Zeza and daughter Zezella. Despite the protagonist’s defeat, the story ends with an illusory collective victory in the fight against hunger. The theatrical performance, curated by the company "Aldo Giuffré", will accompany the musical intermezzo of Maestro Giorgio Matteoli with compositions of seventeenth century Neapolitan and international authors.
