Students with disabilities
Services for students with disabilities or specific learning disabilities (DSA)
In 1999, with the enactment of the Law of January 28 n.17: "Integration and modification of the framework law of February 5, 1992, n. 104, for assistance, social integration and the rights of people with disabilities", specific directives have been defined for universities on the integration and rights of differently able university students.
After further provisions on the subject, the CNUDD (National University Conference of Delegates for Disability) has issued specific Guidelines, a reference model for guiding the policies and good practices of universities with a view to an ever better qualification of the right to study for students with special educational needs and the realisation of inclusive academic communities.
The University of Sannio, sensitive to the needs of these students, has set up some services considering both the right to study of people with disabilities or specific learning disabilities and their inclusion within academic life, in the awareness that it is necessary to recognise additional value to students. This awareness has been strengthened in recent years through the experience gained.
All the protagonists of the life of the University must actively participate in this common path of inclusion.
Specific teaching and technical aids and the support of specific specialised tutoring services are available to students.
Therefore, each student with disabilities or specific learning disabilities must be placed in the following conditions of:
- participate in academic life and all its multifaceted initiatives;
- use the facilities placed at the service of students;
- interact with the administrative offices for every need;
- regularly attend ordinary didactic activities (lectures, exercises, seminars, etc.);
- acquire at least the minimum necessary knowledge of each discipline;
- regularly use the supplementary supports necessary to overcome his handicap;
- Initiate positive social and cultural relationships with other students and the teaching staff.
With this in mind:
a) for motor disabilities, the service makes use of part-time students who, based on individual needs that arise from time to time, take care of accompaniment or assistance in the classroom during lessons or exams;
b) for psychic or sensory disabilities, specific learning disorders and situations of severe and prolonged infirmity, didactic aid is provided in the form of particular tutoring and the setting of extraordinary or equivalent exams by each teacher, on the specific indication of the Department Delegate and in coordination with him, to provide an individualized treatment that achieves substantial equality with the other students, even in the university environment.
