UNISANNIO SVELATA 2025: the University meets the city

On March 20, the University of Sannio hosted "UNISANNIO Svelata," an initiative celebrating the National University Day, "Università Svelate." This special event opened the university’s doors to the public, offering a unique opportunity to explore academic life and the impact of scientific and technological research.

Throughout the day, university spaces—guardians of history and innovation—welcomed visitors to discover firsthand the institution’s vital role in society. The academic community engaged with the public, sharing its commitment to knowledge, innovation, and culture. The event highlighted how the university is not only a place of learning but also a driving force for collective growth and regional development.

In Benevento, the event was structured around three main themes:

HISTORY – The unseen king and hidden deities
Participants, guided by Prof. Aglaia McClintock, explored the remarkable identification of Alexander the Great on the Arch of Trajan and its historical significance. They also revisited the extraordinary discovery of Egyptian and Greco-Roman deities within the Sant’Agostino Complex.

CONSERVATION – 20 years of research on Benevento’s heritage
Prof. Celestino Grifa led an insightful journey through two decades of scientific studies on the mapping of historical materials and the characterization of Egyptian stones from the Temple of Isis—key research for the preservation of the city’s heritage.

DIGITALIZATION – Art and technology: cultural heritage in 3D
Engineer Alberto Micco presented 3D reproductions of the Nativity Capital (Santa Sofia, UNESCO) and the Main Gate of the Cathedral. Through immersive demonstrations, visitors experienced advanced scanning and prototyping techniques firsthand.

This event was part of UNISANNIO’s broader commitment to cultural heritage enhancement, which also saw the inauguration of the S’ADIM Museum on March 11. Visitors had the chance to journey through Sannitic culture with a guided tour of the Sant’Agostino Digital Museum.
