Sergio Rapuano graduated with honours in Electronic Engineering from the University of Salerno, where he also obtained a PhD in Information Engineering, Applied Electromagnetism and Telecommunications. Since 2002, he has been tenured at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Sannio, currently as Full Professor in the scientific-disciplinary field ING-INF/07, Electrical and Electronic Measurements, where he teaches the courses 'Measurement Software' and 'Measurements for Automation and Industrial Production' and was Chair of the Joint Degree and Master's Degree Council in Electronic Engineering for Automation and Telecommunications from 2017 to 2019. He currently serves as the Rector's Delegate for Scientific Research.
Prof. Rapuano is a senior member of the IEEE, Chair of the IEEE Italy Section and a member of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Sociey (IMS), the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS), the IEEE Standards Association, the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and the Italian Association of Electrotechnics, Electronics, Automation, Informatics and Telecommunications (AEIT) and participates in the activities of the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO) TC4 "Measurement of Electrical Quantities".
In particular, within IMS he has been Vice President Membership, is currently Vice President Education and has been elected Vice President Technical and Standards Activities in office since 01/01/2023; he was elected member-at-large of the Administrative Committee for the four-year terms 2017-2020 and 2021-2024; he is Chair of TC-25 "Medical and Biological Measurements" and Subcommittee Chair of TC-10 "Waveform Generation, Measurement and Analysis".
He participated in the drafting of IEEE 1057 "Standard for digitizing waveform recorders", IEEE 1241 "Standard for Terminology and Test Methods for Analog-to-Digital Converters", IEEE 1658 "Standard for Terminology and Test Methods for Digital-to-Analog Converter Devices", and participated in the drafting of IEEE P1721 "Standard for Objective Measurement of Systemic Arterial Blood Pressure in Humans". He chairs the TC-10 subcommittee that developed the IEEE Standard 2414 on "Jitter, Wander and Phase Noise".
He has been member of the board of the PhD programme in Bioinformatics and is currently a member of the board of the PhD programme in Information Technology for Engineering.
He was several times Guest Editor of the journals 'Computer Standards and Interfaces', 'Measurement' and 'IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement'.
He was several times Chair of the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technical Conference and IEEE International Symposium on Medical Measurements and Applications, of which he was also General Co-Chair twice.
He was General Co-Chair of the IEEE Forum on Research Technology for Society and Industry 2021 and the IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference 2022.
He was awarded the 2007 Outstanding Young Engineer Award by the IEEE IMS and the Distinguished Service Award by the IEEE Italy Section in 2020.
