Electronic Resources
Scientific journals, databases, reference works, and e-books with restricted access
The University of Sannio provides its institutional users with scientific journals, bibliographic databases, legal and economic-commercial information databases, statistical databases, reference works, and e-books with restricted access, which can be consulted via web stations in the BCA’s Central Library, from devices connected to the university network or via WiFi after authentication using university credentials, and remotely (from home or outside the Unisannio network) after configuring the Proxy Server.
Some databases, however, are only accessible from dedicated PC stations at the two library locations due to specific contractual clauses and/or technical settings of the resources.
Who Can Access Electronic Resources
The categories of users authorized to access electronic resources are defined in the license agreements signed by the University with the publishers.
Normally, access from internal university connections is allowed to internal users: faculty, students, technical-administrative staff, those with a formal research and teaching relationship with the University, visiting professors, and occasional users admitted to library services.
Remote access, however, is granted only to institutional users: faculty, students, technical-administrative staff, and those with a formal research and teaching relationship with the University.
Conditions for Using Electronic Resources
The terms and conditions governing the use of electronic resources are specified in the individual license agreements signed with the publishers. Violation of these conditions allows the publisher to suspend access to licensed electronic resources and apply penalties.
Individual licenses may also include specific additional permissions or limitations regarding the use of content for interlibrary exchanges and teaching activities.
It is the responsibility of each user to ensure that consultation of databases and electronic periodicals is for research, study, and educational purposes only. Any use for profit or commercial purposes is prohibited. No economic activity may be conducted that competes with the publisher (e.g., resale of informational content).
Users are allowed to view, download, print, and store a reasonable number of individual articles for personal, instructional, and research purposes. Copying and storing entire journal issues is prohibited.
Some resources, according to their usage licenses, can be used for educational materials, provided the source is properly cited (author, title, publisher). However, this material must be deleted when no longer used.
The use of automatic scanning and download programs is prohibited.
How to Access Electronic Resources from Home
The University Library System, in collaboration with the IT Systems Sector, ensures access to licensed electronic resources (databases, journals, e-books, etc.) 24 hours a day, even from outside the University of Sannio network, via Proxy. For first-time access and usage, a guide is available.
The Unisannio e-mail address, provided to the academic community and used for all official communications, also allows remote access to most electronic resources of the University Library.
Consultation is done through the same methods as inside the network, starting from the links provided in the resource section, with the addition of entering authentication credentials when required.
